Drawing upon the Nalopākhyāna of the Mahābhārata, Kanakadasa's Nalacharitre offers a concise retelling of the life of Nala and Damayanti. Composed in nine chapters comprising 481 verses, this celebrated work went on to influence several later Kannada narrative compositions that took the Nala story as their theme.
